Yunnan: Tengchong Xian: Mingguang Xiang. Zizhi Cun. Jiangao Shan on trail E of Baduolin Yakou (pass at marker number 8 between China and Myanmar). W of Gaoligong Shan. Subtropical evergreen broadleaved forest. Forest dominated by Rhododendron, Acer, Lauraceae, Ilex, and Tsuga. 25°48'34"N, 98°37'29"E; 3020 m.
Growing under forest in partial shade. SW-facing. Loam. Base rock: limestone. Slope 10-30°. Shrub ca. 50 cm tall. Leaf bud bracts red. Young fruit green Persistent stigma red. Rare.
