Sichuan: Xiangcheng Xian. Pass between Xiangcheng and Reda over Ma'an Shan. Open barren area at pass with scattered Quercus scrub and scattered Larix and Picea. 29°0'7"N, 99°44'34"E; 4200-4270 m.
Gravelly soil around dwarf Rhododendron. Plants colonial from deeply buried tap root and filiform stolons, fertile shoots surrounded by smaller sterile shoots; corolla purple.
