Leccinum rubrum M. Zang
Sichuan: Xiangcheng Xian. W of Xiangcheng on highway XV09 to Reda Xiang on Reda side of pass over Ma'an Shan. Remnant Picea-Quercus-Prunus-Salix forest and adjacent openings and loose stony slopes; mostly intact Quercus and mixed conifer forests from 3750 m to tree line. 29°2'41"N, 99°42'41"E; 3450-3800 m.
On ground in forest of Quercus and Pinus densata at 3500 m. Pileus 10-13 cm in diam., convex, red to dark red, sometimes in some places with yellow tinge, dry to slightly viscid. Pore purplish red; tube yellow, bluing. Stipe 8-10 x 2-4 cm, apical region yellow, becoming yellowish towards base of stipe, densely covered with very small, purplish red squamules. Context bluing. With a slide and line drawings.
