Sichuan: Kangding Xian. Between the cities of Yajiang and Xinduqiao off highway 318; S of Gaoersi Shan at E foot of peak called "Muzei" by local person. Alpine meadows with seepages and shrub thickets of Potentilla, Salix and dwarf Rhododendron. 30°1'30"N, 101°23'15"E; 4200-4250 m.
In boggy meadow. Forming dense turf in shallow water over muck; staminate inflorescence purple; perigynia green at base, purple at apex. Initially identified as Carex microglochin Wahlenberg by Lunkai Dai, December 2009.
